Watercolor pencil on off-cut archival paper
Currently on exhibit at @TheDenManila is Con Cabrera's ongoing illustration project Feelings @daming_feelings . What at first glance seems to be flowers abloom, upon closer inspection, surprises the viewer with the unexpected.
Con tells us more about the project: "This ongoing exercise of drawing garlic and onion peelings makes use of my husband's discards from his paper-cut artworks. The portability of the materials allows me to respond to creative impulses amid domestic routines and other work. This generative illustration project depicts my navigation of womanhood through ruminating on themes of housework, the private space, labor, and ideology."
Some of the drawings were exhibited at the 27F Studio, The Drawing Room Gallery, Gallery Roberto, and various fundraisers in the art community. A derived form of the off-cuts was also installed at Yokota School in Iwate, Japan, in 2018.
The offshoot version Community of Feelings has iterations presented via the Ateneo Art Gallery's Marciano Galang Acquisition Prize MGAP Online Exhibition and Gravity Art Space's #parakayRoman.
Feelings will be on view at The Den until December 12, 2021.
